Recent reports in the technology press have suggested that Google might abandon Java on the Android platform. Given the importance of Android apps to Google and the number of developers working on this platform, this change would have a significant affect on the mobile app market. Yet, which language will be selected as successor to Java? This presentation compares the two languages that could possibly replace Java in the near future. We will examine language features, ease of use, and advantages of using either Kotlin or Swift on the Android platform.
